I've been playing guitar since my dad bought me a Spanish Ibanez on my eighteenth birthday. I don't have any natural talent for music whatsoever so playing is a pretty humbling experience - I know I'll never be any good. Having said that, I do really enjoy playing and it is very relaxing.
I now have Elise - my original Spanish guitar and still my favourite - as well as a cheap electric and a 12 string acoustic I bought recently. I also have a 4 track tape recorder to put the odd song together.
As well as struggling with guitar I occasionally persevere with an extremely cheap and nasty violin and, more recently, an erhu (or Yee Woo in cantonese). This is a type of ancient chinese violin which has no western equivalent that I have ever seen. It is an extremely cool instrument which unfortunately will probably take about thirty years to learn how to play. My playing of either of these violins is aural torture of the worst kind...
While I was at University I started the most untalented band England has ever known. We were called "Alright For Toast" and our old web pages are faithfully reproduced here for the sake of posterity.
That's about it, but if anyone local fancies having a jam session playing old Cure songs then get in touch <grin>.
